Do people really need to be reminded that the old adage of “the customer is always right?” Earlier this week, Comcast Sports Network Chicago reporter Susannah Collins was relieved of her duties after an on air slip of the tongue, first gained Twitter traction, followed by national attention only to expose her history of starring in an internet series called “Sports Nutz.” The series is a lowest common denominator comedy series feature raunchy or otherwise off color humor. This was found out by the Chicago Blackhawks organization, which Collins was reporting on at the time of the gaffe; they then reportedly contacted CSN Chicago, whom later dismissed Collins.
Upon the announcement of her dismissal, Chicago media personalities have begun taking to social media trying to lay blame for the Blackhawks’ role in CSN Chicago’s decision making and holding them accountable for her firing. Does anyone else see something inherently wrong with this utterly stupid debacle? In as plain and simple English as I can: Susannah Collins was fired for previous career choices which were in direct conflict with the brand and image of the Chicago Blackhawks. Furthermore, CSN Chicago understands that it’s better to be in the good graces of the fast growing market, marketability, and popularity of the Chicago Blackhawks and their brand. Read more…
